So much of american popular culture imitates black culture, the line is blurred between what celebrates black culture and what tears it down. In the wave of Tyler Perry and Kevin Hart films we get sucked into laughing at our own culture but rarely does Hollywood get the stories right about the actual black experience in america.
The festival will “explore how young black voices are redefining Blackness. The festival will feature six films that are either directed or produced by people of color.” The festival will take place at the Nickelodeon Theater in downtown Columbia, SC and will be July 23- 26.
