Columbia Hosts 17th Annual Black Expo

BlackExpoOn Saturday May 17th, the Colonial Life Arena was filled with beautiful black people of all shapes and sizes in celebration of the diversity of the African American community. While vendors of every business imaginable filled the outlining hall, seminars and entertainers performed inside the arena.

Of the vendors in attendance was De Amor publishing, Columbia’s latest lifestyle magazine. This magazine, published by Chastity Davis has everything from fashion, to beauty and music articles. De Amor is the perfect place to advertise your business.

The Black Expo had many celebrity guests highlight the event, including my childhood crush BOW WOW, OMG Girlz, Michael Baisden, Kool Moe Dee and Big Daddy Kane, to name a few. While I missed getting an autograph from Mr. 106 himself,  I was able to watch the OMG Girlz in concert with my niece. This colorful trio from The ATL, wowed the crowed of children in the audience and even did autographs after the show.

Of the multitude of business in attendance, one thing is clear, there is not an absence of black businesses and no reason not to support a black business. Each guest in attendance that received a swag bag also received a copy of the latest issue of the South Carolina Black pages, established in 1991. This black directory is very comprehensive and I look to be featured in the next issue under their journalism category.
