MakeMeOverEb Speaks as a Powerful Woman for Columbia Girl Scouts

girl scoutsEbony Looney along with 12 other powerful women of the Columbia area came together to empower middle school and high school Girl Scouts of South Carolina Mountains to Midlands. Their annual Powerful Woman Summit, connecting teens and professionals was held January 25th at Columbia,SC’s Capital City Club. The summit, emcee’d by USC student and Girl Scout Alum Phonecia Hughes, gave young girls a chance to learn how 12 local powerful women came to live their dream careers. Along with professional advice the girls were also encouraged to be themselves while taking a stand against bulling and negative portrays of women in media.

Ebony Looney, the makeover artist behind MakeMeOverEb.com gave the girls advice about being a leader and a powerful person right now. One does not have to be an adult or college educated to start living out career goals. Being a leader is about taking charge and taking chances. Eb encouraged the girls to start setting goals now, goals don’t have to aim for 5 years away, start now. Plan goals for this summer, next fall or next year. After setting goals don’t simply write them down, Eb’s idea “Make a Vision Board”, use images from magazines, online or anything that inspires you to live out your goals.

The summit consisted of the speakers introducing themselves followed by brunch. The powerful women then floated from table to table and spoke to the girls directly. The event was a big success and everyone in attendance learned a little something new and made a new friend. The parting words of the morning’s event, “There is nothing more beautiful than a confident independent woman”.
