There seems to be some insane notion that you should have your life completely together in your twenties and that is simply not possible. As you age, you grow and become more in tuned with who you are and where you want to be. Now that I am 25, I am making space for me to be the person I want to be. It is easy to get put in a box and told who you should be especially as a black woman. The world expects us to be angry and full of attitude. They either want us in the kitchen or asking for help. The truth is, black women are diverse and complex creatures. We exist in a space where the world is constantly telling us who to be and we defy that each day.
I am learning new lessons each day. Just because you are not where you want to be, that doesn’t mean you won’t get there. Give yourself time to grow and time to breathe. Continue to appreciate the little things in each day. Always believe in the possibility of your dreams.
