So, lets talk about our favorite thing and that of course would be hair, well aside from chocolate. We’ve all seen the photos and read the articles about Rihanna’s infamous “Doobie Wrap” both on the red carpet and on stage at the 2013 American Music Awards aired Sunday night. In a recent interview with Elle Magazine, Rihanna’s longtime stylist Ursula Stephen, reported that Rihanna herself chose to attend the show with her hair wrapped.
While many members of the African American community have been outraged by this decision, what else can we really expect from the style icon that is Rihanna. Since she first arrived on the scene, first sporting her island vibe with hit album Pon De Replay, she’s been taking the world of fashion by storm. Her cutting edge hair cuts and bold color choices have been the envy of every woman in the salon in search of a new look.
While I personally feel comfortable wearing my wrap within the comforts of my own home, Rihanna, just like her music is that bold force that challenges every style rule. She may be receiving some hate for her hair choices but that is the risk one takes to be a trendsetter, after all she was the first ever American Music Awards Icon Award recipient. She must be doing something right. I applaud Rihanna for being unapologetically true to herself as an artist.
This is a great post. So many people were up in arms about her look! I thought it was very bold of her. I agree with you. It was daring and she’s the ultimate risk taker. I am trying to like your posts but don’t see the like option. Have you disabled that feature?
I thought I added the like button to my posts, I’ll have to check my settings… But it’s Rihanna I expect nothing less from her but to be a game changer but of course the media is always out to portray the black woman and lazy and thinking she is “too good” to comb her hair down.
