Queen Bey quietly repositions herself on the throne of the music industry. At 12 midnight on Friday December 13th, Beyoncé released her fifth studio album. The self titled album took the world by storm. According to Madam Noire the secret album sold 80,000 in matter of 3 hours after release. Not only did the singer not release a 14 track album in secret, it was a visual album complete with 17 videos.
One track in particular, titled “Flawless”, featuring Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has sparked much debate among modern feminists. The song opens with a sound bite from Beyoncé’s first girl group performance in a group called “Girl time”. The chorus to the single recites the phrase “Bow down B*tches” which would argue completely against feminist principals. However, the latter of the song features a “Ted Talk” discussion of author Adichie explaining the modern stance of feminists.
Other features on the album include “Drunk in Love” featuring hubby Jay-Z and showcases the inner rapper of our Queen. Mine Featuring Drake, which can be seen in the post below. “SuperPower” featuring Frank Ocean and “Blue” featuring none other than her first born baby Blue Ivy Carter. My favorites on the album include the hypersexual “Rocket”, “Pretty Hurts”, a perception on the American ideals of beauty and “Haunted”, the title speaks for itself.
What are your thoughts on the new Beyoncé album?
